I want my image folders to be in "icon view" array of thumbnails , then double click an image to open it, then use the arrow keys to cycle through them in the same order they are sorted in Finder by date, size, etc. Quick Look spacebar in Finder only works until the end of a row, since the arrow keys just move your selection around the Finder window.

So no scrolling. I agree flipping to list or column mode is easiest cmd-2 or cmd Then QuickLook works just the way you want it to with the down arrow key. You can jump back to icon view again with cmd-1 after you're done.
